A Melton West woman is pleading with the thieves who stole her motorised scooter to “do the right thing” and bring it back.
Linda, who has multiple sclerosis, said the theft left her “absolutely gobsmacked” as well as housebound.
“I can walk a little way with my walker but I get very fatigued so [the scooter] is my main source of transport,” the 57-year-old said. “My scooter is my best friend.”
Melton police believe the thieves entered the backyard of Linda’s Hilton Way home between 5.30pm on Friday and 12.30pm on Saturday to steal her $4000 scooter.
“I had thought I was quite secure in my home environment, but not any more.”
Senior Constable Gareth Gutierrez said thieves usually took stolen scooters for a joyride before dumping them.
“This kind of theft is particularly despicable as the offenders have blatantly targeted this woman,” he said.
“People don’t just have motorised scooters lying around. It’s obvious that anyone who has one needs it – to take that from someone is really low.”
The four-wheel blue Invacare Pegasus scooter has a Geelong Cats sticker on the front and had a blue and white umbrella, a battery charger, black rain cape and walking stick on board.
