A goalless first quarter cost Melton Centrals any chance of victory in their Riddell District Football League clash with Riddell. Melton went down by 15.13 (103) – 9.6 (60). While the Centrals struggled to hit the scoreboard early, Riddell had
no problems. The Bombers went
on a rampage, booting seven goals
in the opening quarter. And there
was no letting up on the pressure, Riddell going on to kick another
eight goals to seal the win.
Ballarat Football League
Darley came off second-best in a battle of the Ballarat Football League’s undefeated teams. Taking on Redan, Darley was beaten 17.19 (121) – 13.8 (86). Shane Page stood up for the Devils, booting five goals to be judged his side’s best player. Also impressive were Nathan Lyons and Dane Grenfell. After three rounds, Darley is fourth on the BFL ladder. Elsewhere at the weekend,
North Ballarat defeated Ballarat,
East Point edged past Sunbury,
and Bacchus Marsh got the better
of Melton South.
Basketball
Melton was at its best in Big V basketball on Saturday night. The Thoroughbreds produced one of their most impressive performances of the season to smash Geelong 96-65. After a tight first quarter, Melton took control in the second term, scoring 31 points and restricting Geelong to 11. That handed them a 22-point lead at half-time and complete control of the match. Despite a better effort from Geelong after the main break, the damage was done and Melton was able to cruise to its win. Ivan Harris was a standout for the Thoroughbreds, scoring 24 points, with seven rebounds.
TAC Cup
The Western Jets continue to battle through the first half of the TAC Cup season, copping another big loss on Sunday. The Jets succumbed to Gippsland Power by a whopping
105 points. For the Jets, defender Liam Carter continued his strong season, working hard in the
backline.
