Very happy nappy plan in Melton and Moorabool

Mums and dads across Melton and Moorabool are getting nappy bags ready – but not for what you would think.

Parents such as Bacchus Marsh’s Steph Davidson are preparing to put their babies’ unused disposable nappies to good use by donating them to The Nappy Collective.

The Nappy Collective collects leftover unused disposable nappies from towns all across Australia and redistributes them to organisations that support families in need.

Ms Davidson knows well how quickly her 11-month-old son William grows out of his nappies and jumped at the opportunity to donate unused ones.

“It makes me feel a lot better to give them to someone who’s going to need them rather than contributing to landfill,” she said.

Ms Davidson, who is overcoming postnatal depression, said it was vital to support those in need, especially parents in crisis situations.

“We’ve never been in need of nappies, but I have had issues where I needed help,” she said. “There’s always people out there who will need support and this is one less thing they have to worry about.”

The Nappy Collective is an initiative run by volunteers including founder Sandra Jacobs, who says “incredible” community engagement has helped the initiative grow.

The next collection will be in May, with drop-off points in Caroline Springs and Bacchus Marsh.
