Fancy that! Play dress-ups in Ballan and raise health funds

An opportunity to dress up is an opportunity to help when shopping at the Ballan District Health and Care op shop.

Opportunity on Inglis is the only place in Ballan and surrounds where locals can pick up a costume for fancy dress, according to manager Michaela Johnston.

Having fun with the costumes helps raise funds for Ballan District Health and Care.

From Bollywood to Hollywood, the store has costumes for almost every theme.

“We would love for the community to get behind us,” Ms Johnston said.

“It’s an opportunity not only to get a great costume but to support the community and put [the costumes] to good use. It’s not widely known at the moment, but they’re all here, ready for people to have fun with.”

Ballan District Health and Care director of business and finance Wendy Grayland said the profits from the op shop supported welfare services.

“There have been lots of cuts to the welfare system so we’re taking the opportunity to use the op shop income to fund welfare services that aren’t going to be funded any more,” Ms Grayland said.

Ballan District Health and Care is a community-owned, not-for-profit, organisation.

Revenue is also used for equipment and other services provided by the hospital.

Adult costumes cost $25 to hire, children’s costumes are $10, and for both a $20 bond is required.
