Diggers Rest fire brigade members are urging drivers to move over and let them through.
“We frequently get calls to support Sunbury Country Fire Authority and our other neighbouring brigades,” the Diggers Rest CFA posted on their Facebook page.
“We also often have trouble exiting Houdini Drive and Plumpton Road onto Vineyard Road while we’re travelling under emergency conditions due to motorists failing to give way. If you see us or any emergency vehicles travelling under emergency conditions, please move to the left and safely let us pass.”
Diggers Rest CFA captain Luke Hynes said his team “quite often” found drivers forgetting to let emergency vehicles pass through or not knowing they should move to the left.
“The reason for mentioning those streets [on the Facebook page] is because of all the changes that have happened in Houdini Drive with all the new housing estates,” Mr Hynes said. “Drivers can’t see fire trucks approaching intersections as much as they used to … and it’s sort of on a blind bend.
“It’s a generic, all-around problem. With the increased traffic, obviously we’re going to have an increased number of motorists so there’ll be a lot more cars we have to navigate around.”
