Bars used in carjack

Two men with metal bars carjacked a vehicle on Cambrian Way Melton about 5.30am last Monday. The
car’s occupants, a man and a woman, were ordered from the vehicle before the two offenders drove off. The grey 2009 Holden Clubsport has been spotted in Melton several times since and police said the driver had tried to engage police in pursuits. It is believed the victims and the car may have been specifically targeted.

Cop accused of rape

A leading senior constable from the western region has been charged with rape. The police officer, who was suspended over an alleged incident in January, was charged in February with two counts of recklessly causing injury following a Professional Standards Command investigation. Last week the officer was charged over an alleged sexual offence which happened in a private home on January 26 while he was
off duty. The officer remains suspended without pay and will appear in Geelong Magistrates’ Court on April9.

Works starts on sport precinct

Work on the $11.3 million Bridge Road sports precinct has started. The Melton South development will feature an athletics track, field facilities, hockey pitches, a community pavilion and a storage building. The site will be landscaped with trees, a garden, grassed areas and spectator viewing mounds. Stage one of the precinct is expected to be completed by June next year.

Ice, guns seized in search

A “significant” quantity of ‘ice’ and cannabis was seized from a home in Kurunjang last week. Five unregistered guns and money, believed to be the proceeds of drug trafficking, were also seized. The discovery was the result of a search warrant at a property on Maree Court last week. A 38-year-old Kurunjang man was arrested and charged with drugs and firearms offences and was remanded in custody.

Thieves hit display homes

Two display homes in Peppermint Grove, Taylors Hill were broken into about midnight on March 22. Police believe the offenders used a ute or trailer to transport a bedside table and shower rose they stole. Despite an increased police presence, there have been a number of similar offences at homes being built during the past few weekends.

Rotary shed loses gear

The Rotary Club of Melton Valley’s shed at Brooklyn Road, Melton South was broken into some time between March 1 and March 24. A whipper snipper, pump and a data projector were stolen. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
