Cultural Diversity Week is an invitation to share and appreciate the many diverse strands that make up our communities.
Honouring the week, which runs until March 22, Melton council will host Harmony Day celebrations at the Caroline Springs Civic Centre on Saturday to promote awareness, acceptance and appreciation of cultural diversity.
The celebration will showcase food, performances, music and activities from around the world.
Melton mayor Sophie Ramsey is inviting everyone to join the festivities.
“Harmony Day promotes inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone,” Cr Ramsey said.
“With 27.8 per cent of our residents born overseas, celebrations such as this give us the chance to learn about the different customs and cultural traditions that make up our vibrant and diverse community.”
The celebrations will be from 10am-1pm on Saturday, March 21, at the Caroline Springs Civic Centre, 193 Caroline Springs Boulevard, Caroline Springs.
Also featured during Cultural Diversity Week will be Filipino, Chinese and Indonesian cultural performances, a bilingual Italian story time, a screening of the Indian film The Lunchbox, and Italian cooking demonstrations.
