A day in the park celebrating Easter and community spirit is the way it ought to be, according to Bacchus Marsh Egg Hunt organisers.
The annual hunt is returning for its third year to help bring the community together in a fun, outdoor setting.
This year the event will help raise vital funds and awareness for the Epilepsy Foundation Victoria.
Egg hunt founder and co-organiser Rae Allan said that as a child she enjoyed egg-and-spoon races, potato sack races and egg hunts at her Sunday school picnics for Easter, and she wanted to bring that joy back.
Ms Allan said it was a day for children to be free from technology and enjoy playing outdoors.
“The goal is to get people outside on Good Friday, out from behind the TV, and get kids running around,” she said.
Each year the organisers welcome hundreds of families from Bacchus Marsh and beyond to enjoy a day of entertainment and activities, including market stalls, entertainers, traditional games and, of course, the egg hunt.
This year’s charity recipient was chosen in honour of co-organiser Emma Dwyer’s four-year-old daughter Hannah, who was diagnosed with epilepsy when she was 18-months-old.
Ms Dwyer says people know very little about epilepsy and the Epilepsy Foundation which makes the egg hunt all the more important.
“It’s a real condition that people face every day – anybody can have it,” she said.
Ms Dwyer hopes that by volunteering in the community she will be a role model for her daughter, who she describes as “a good egg” with a “big heart”. She says Hannah is excited about joining her cousins in the hunt for chocolate eggs.
“Even if we only raise a small amount of money and educate just one person, then I’ll be happy,” Ms Dwyer said.
Organisers hope to raise $10,000 for the Epilepsy Foundation.
