Moorabool council has introduced a special hire rate for commercial use of meeting rooms at Lerderderg library in Bacchus Marsh.
The library’s three meeting rooms are mostly used by community groups, committees and council staff for functions and meetings.
But chief executive Rob Croxford says there is growing interest in room hire from commercial users.
“In the past 12 months, council has received an increasing number of requests for hire of the meeting rooms from commercial businesses,” he said.
“The previous fees and charges included only a community group rate, so commercial businesses hired the rooms at the reduced rate.”
Mr Croxford said it was important that the rooms continue to be as accessible as possible for non-profit community groups and committees.
“This ensures the facility is meeting its intended purpose and remains accessible to not-for-profit community groups, organisations and committees,” he said.
Casual hire for the meeting rooms for community groups and non-profit organisations starts at $11.50 an hour and can drop to $6 an hour for regular hire.
The new fees for commercial and business users will start at $20 an hour, which includes wireless internet.
Prices for use of video conferencing facilities start from $30 an hour.
