FFA Cup: Melton Phoenix beat Keilor 1-0

Melton Phoenix progressed to the fourth round of the national FFA Cup with a 1-0 extra-time win over local rival Keilor last week.

With both sides set to compete in state league 4 this soccer season, it was clear there wasn’t much between the pair for the first 45 minutes at MacPherson Park in Melton.

After going into the half-time break at 0-0, there was still no end to the deadlock when play resumed.

In front of their home fans, Phoenix finally found a way through the opposition defence in the added time to seal the victory. Melton will now take on last year’s Dockerty Cup winners, Melbourne Knights.

The results were a lot better for a number of other Brimbank-based teams competing in the early rounds of the FFA Cup last week.

Sydenham Park showed it has lost none of its goalscoring prowess in the off-season on its way to a smashing 6-0 victory against Old Melburnians.

Meanwhile, there were also plenty of goals for Westgate, who enjoyed a 5-1 victory against Hampton Park United. Westgate will now take on Geelong in the second round while Sydenham Park will meet Pascoe Vale.
