Focus on double the fun at Melton Multiples

Multiple Birth Awareness Week will be celebrated in Melton next week, helping to raise the profile of clubs like Melton Multiples Inc.

The group was launched last year to provide support for families with multiple births, including twins and triplets.

Club president Connie Sonerson, the mother of twins Ruby and Rose, says the group is important for families with multiples, giving them access to support and advice from people who have been through similar experiences.

“It’s a really good support system to be able to get out there and talk to other mums with twins who understand what you’re going through,” she said.

Ms Sonerson says parents with multiples know what it feels like to juggle more than one baby, and members step in to help when they can.

“You always need support when you have more than one [child] because you only have two hands and sometimes you need both for just the one child.”

Ms Sonerson says the multiples support group differs from traditional mothers’ groups because all the parents are experiencing the same struggles. “It’s a totally different world, from one to two [babies],” Ms Sonerson said. “It’s a different way of thinking for mums.”

She says being a parent to twins means double everything, but most importantly “double the love and double the cuddles”.

This year’s theme for the Australian Multiple Birth Association’s Multiple Birth Awareness Week (March 8-15) is “TEAM: Together, Everyone Achieves More”.
