Renee Morgan gets Wild and dreams of road show

Melton’s Renee Morgan is drumming to the beat of her heart, following her passion for music with the band Once Were Wild, which has just released its first EP, Dreamfield.

Other members of the indie band are singer Alana Porter, guitarist Georgia Fell, bassist Sean Henry and Andrew Whittle on keyboards and synthesiser.

They got together in late 2013 and have big ambitions to travel the world and share their music.

“We want to push a tour off immediately, travelling around Australia,” Morgan says. “If we can go overseas, that would be absolutely ideal.”

After three months recording in preparation for the release of Dreamfield, Morgan said the hard work was already paying off with the band’s music being featured on Triple J this month.

Once Were Wild also performed at the recent St Kilda Festival and has played at some of Melbourne’s best live music venues.

“We just like to gig and get our music out there,” says Morgan, who has been playing drums for about 15 years.

This is the fourth band she has been involved in. Morgan’s history is with metal and hard rock, while her bandmates share varied back- grounds.

“Everyone’s played different genres, so it worked out well coming into an indie genre,” she says. “The five us work pretty well together. We’re just doing what we love and somehow it just works out in the end.”

The band will launch Dreamfield on February 28, at the Bendigo Hotel, Collingwood. For more details visit: www.oncewerewild.com.
