Sports clubs across Melton have benefitted from state government funding as part of the Active Club grants program.
Eynesbury cricket, Melton pistol, Melton water activity, Melton rugby union, Spartans baseball and Warranooke riding clubs have each received about $3000.
Eynesbury Cricket Club secretary Jason Davis welcomed the funding, which will be used to buy equipment and uniforms.
“We don’t have clubrooms and our only formal income is local markets,” Davis said.
Melton MP Don Nardella said the grants would make it easier for clubs to reach out to new participants.
“Half of all adults in Victoria don’t get enough exercise,” Mr Nardella said.
“As well as the physical benefits, research also shows that sport builds community pride and loyalty and offers people the chance to get involved, providing them with a positive sense of self-worth.”
VicHealth chief executive Jerril Rechter said it was important to continue supporting local sports clubs.
“Sports and active recreation clubs in Melton are a great way for locals to get involved, meet new people and keep active for good health,” Ms Rechter said.
“These grants encourage community members to try a new activity, support them to join their club or continue playing their favourite sport.”
