Diggers Rest Country Fair back in town

Round up family and friends, the Diggers Rest Country Fair is back in town.

The fair made its debut last year after 21-year-old Jeorgia Pincini decided to do something to help local families that were struggling.

She joined forces with Diggers Rest Lions Club to put on a celebration the whole community could enjoy and benefit from.

Last year’s event raised $4500, which was distributed by the Lions Club to families in the area needing a helping hand.

Sports clubs and community groups jumped on board and raised their own funds.

Ms Pincini said she was thrilled with last year’s outcome and was excited to bring the event back bigger and better this year.

“There are lots more activities this year and lots more stalls, including farmers’ market stalls.”

She said the fair aimed to be a cheap and affordable alternative to other festivals, such as the Royal Melbourne Show.

“All the activities are by gold coin donation; we try to make it as family-friendly and affordable as possible.”

Next month’s fair will include pony rides, cow-milking demonstrations, a jumping castle and classic car show, as well as entertainment from local bands and performers.

The “crowd favourite” hot dog-eating competition is also back. And there will be a contest for the biggest home-grown pumpkins, zucchinis and silver beet, which Ms Pincini says will add to the country fair atmosphere.

The Diggers Rest Country Fair will be at Animal Land Children’s Farm on Sunday March 29, 10am-4pm.
