Melton: Dance teacher’s success no faux pas

Peter Faux tapped his way into the magical world of dance at just 12 years of age.

“I started with tap and jazz then picked up classical,” Faux said.

This year, the 65-year-old will celebrate a milestone – the 30th anniversary of his Peter Faux Dance Ensemble in Melton.

Faux and four colleagues teach classes in classical, contemporary, folk, hip-hop, jazz, tap and acrobatic dancing.

Even though the well-respected teacher misses performing, he says teaching provides ample satisfaction.

“The excitement of students, who work hard to understand and be able to do particular exercises and moves, makes it worthwhile,” Faux said.

He believes the secrets to success are discipline and hard work.

“A lot of people want to be someone or something, but they never want to do something,” he said.

“The greatest asset any human being has is an inquisitive mind that wants to know how to do things better.”

His greatest thrill comes from seeing students reach their potential and succeed, Faux said.

The dance studio offers classes in garuda, a dance technique that draws on yoga and pilates.
