Road safety for seniors in Melton on Saturday

Melton City Council has teamed up with the RoadSafe Westgate Community Road Safety Council to hold a free Seniors Driving Expo this Saturday.

Melton, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, and Wyndham councils have collaborated with RoadSafe Westgate to host the expo aimed at keeping senior drivers on the road.

Melton road safety officer Jan Webb said the expo provided an opportunity for senior drivers to be updated on important information.

“It’s important from a senior driver’s perspective that we try and keep them on the road as long as they can [be],” Ms Webb said.

“We want them to be on the road, but we want them to be safe.”

The expo will provide a forum to discuss topics like keeping up with new road laws, getting rid of bad driving habits, keeping cars in good condition and making sure health is as good as it can be for safe driving.

There will also be presentations on ‘Health and Driving’ and ‘Prescribed Medicines and Driving’.

Ms Webb said it was a great chance for drivers to take part in a free confidential driving assessment to see how they were tracking.

“You can never have enough information even at this age; you never stop learning.”

Participants will also get a free roadworthy check on their car, a free Senior Drivers Expo pack, health screening and a free lunch.

The event will be held this Saturday, November 22 from 9.45am to 2.30pm at the Hobsons Bay Council Civic Offices, 115 Civic Parade Altona. To book, call Leigh on 9315 9464.
