A push is on to have destinations such as Melton Botanic Garden linked to established walking and cycling trails.
About 30 Melton residents met on September 14 to discuss recommendations for the West Trails project.
As part of the project, FFLA, a Melbourne landscape architecture and urban design practice, will conduct a review of shared trails across Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melton, Moonee Valley and Wyndham.
Recommendations will be provided to Hobsons Bay council, which is managing the project that aims at improving the quality of the trails and existing facilities. There will also be proposals for new trail projects.
Melton council leisure and facilities manager Adrian Burns said the next stage of the process would be to collate consultation responses.
He outlined four key issues raised during the recent get together: connecting areas of development around Melton with the town, linking to the broader regional trail network, linking trails to key destinations, and avoiding road user conflict issues.
The council is encouraging residents to complete an online questionnaire.
“The West Trails project is an excellent opportunity for users of these paths to tell us how they use them now and what their future needs may be,” the council said.
