Toddlers and pre-schoolers at Goodstart Early Learning released white balloons last week to raise awareness of child sexual assault.
The Melton centre took part in Bravehearts White Balloon Day, which was designed to raise funds and to help protect kids from sexual predators.
Bravehearts also launched the #whoRUprotecting selfie campaign to ask the question “who are you protecting?”
Kindergarten assistant Katrina Mallia said protecting children’s safety was very important for the centre and their close-knit community hoped to help.
“Our main priorities are the children and to protect them and ensure their safety,” Ms Mallia said.
“It’s good to show the community we’re not just a day-care centre and that we’re connected to families and the community,” she said.
Funds raised through the campaign help Bravehearts to deliver vital education, counselling, training and case management services to some of the most vulnerable members in the community.
“Child protection is everyone’s responsibility and we all have children in our lives who we love and want to protect,” Bravehearts founder and chief executive Hetty Johnston said.
Bravehearts aims to put a stop to child sexual assault and help protect the one in five Australian children likely to be sexually assaulted before their 18th birthday.
“Child sexual assault is preventable. By helping us we can put a stop to it,” Ms Johnston said.
