WESTERN RING ROAD: Drag race leaves one in hospital

UPDATE: Four people are lucky to be alive after an alleged drag race ended in a fiery collision on the Western Ring Road overnight.

Emergency services were called to the collision between Airport Drive and the Calder Freeway exit in Tullamarine around 10.40pm.

The vehicles, a black Audi sedan and a white VF Holden Commodore, had been travelling in a south westerly direction when they collided, causing the Audi to flip onto its roof.

Police believe the Audi was a stolen vehicle.

The driver of the Audi was a 16-year-old man from Bulla who was taken under police guard to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with minor injuries.

His 15-year-old male passenger from Epping ran from the scene and was arrested at the train station around 12.30am.

He has been charged with theft of motor car and bailed by police to appear at a Children’s Court at a later date.

The occupants of the Commodore, a 23-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, both from Epping, were not injured.

The driver of this vehicle was arrested at the scene and interviewed in relation to conduct endangering life and has been released pending summons.

The woman was spoken to at the scene and exonerated.

Police are calling for any witnesses to the collision to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or go to www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
