Melton SES has received a timely boost, with new lighting equipment set to make volunteers’ lives easier.
The unit was one of 35 to receive new equipment last week as part of an “AAMI equipment handover”.
Melton received a polesaw storage box, remote lighting system (lights fixed to a fire truck extension arm), weatherproof box, two window punches, a driver bit set and a deep-socket set. Unit deputy controller Paul Ryan said the lighting was especially important.
“A lot of our jobs require lighting, such as work on roof tops,” he said. “This will help us immensely as we’ve had to use hand-held torches for lighting.”
Mr Ryan said the weatherproof box would save a lot of time for the unit, as it meant members could leave equipment on the truck without it getting wet.
More than $4.5 million has been provided to SES units since the partnership between it and insurance company AAMI began in 2002.
