Hot on the heels of the Australian swimming team dominating the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Melton Swimming Club’s rising stars have shown they, too, can produce their best in the big league.
Earlier this month, the club sent an under-12 team of 23 swimmers to compete at the Victorian open short-course championships at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.
There, the Melton swimmers raced in 70 events across the weekend and produced a staggering 54 personal best times, delighting coaches Rob Neilson and Nikki Thorpe.
As well as the blistering swims, there were medals to celebrate.
Patrick Getson won bronze medals in the 100-metre breaststroke and butterfly, while Jaime-Lee Getson won a silver medal in the 50-metre backstroke.
The team will now turn its attention to the Victorian short-course age swimming championships.
These will be held in early September in Melbourne.
