Melton will enjoy the benefits of a $100,000 grant to improve education for people of all ages and abilities.
State MP for Western Victoria Simon Ramsay announced the grant last week, saying the Djerriwarrh Employment and Education Services and Melton South Community Centre would use the grant to help slower learners improve their skills and opportunities.
“This project will develop a career incubator providing information, support and skill development for participants to make informed decisions on their career development and pathway,” Mr Ramsay said. “These programs make a real difference to the people who need it most.”
He said the Coalition government understood the need for programs that engaged every sector of the community, and the new funding was part of
$2.46 million being invested to help Learn Local organisations.
“More than 300 Learn Locals across Victoria provide high-quality training programs in a welcoming, community-based environment with a focus on supporting people who face barriers to take part in education,” Mr Ramsay said.
“Learn Local organisations make a real difference to people’s lives by improving skills, connectedness with the community and employment prospects.”
Mr Ramsay said such programs specialised in engaging Melton residents living with a disability, people who were unemployed or at risk of unemployment, and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
