One of Melton’s leading residents’ groups has a new, youthful leader.
Keilor Downs resident Angela Scarpaci last week replaced Nathan Miles as president of the Cambridge, Coburns and Watts Residents Association (CCWRA).
The new committee, elected at the group’s annual meeting, includes Brimbank residents for the first time.
Ms Scarpaci, a youth worker, said she looked forward to engaging with Melton and Brimbank youth and advocating for their rights and interests.
“I’m very excited about the new position; it’s a great way to get involved in the community,” the 23-year-old said.
Ms Scarpaci said council rates, community well-being and youth engagement programs were high on the CCWRA’s list of priorities.
She said the association would work to ensure Melton and Brimbank councils made decisions in line with the needs and expectations of the community.
“I will always be empathetic towards the needs of residents and I’ll ensure that I hold our local representatives to account,” Ms Scarpaci said.
Mr Miles, a Caroline Springs resident, will remain on the committee as treasurer.
“Since the group’s establishment, we have ensured that our members’ concerns have been taken directly to the council or local members of Parliament,’’ he said.
‘‘We could not have asked for a better president to ensure this continues.”
