It’s literally a matter of comparing apples with oranges for youngsters taking part in Melton council’s new Healthy Children Growing Together program.
The well-being initiative, launched on July 1, includes nutrition workshops, walking school buses and breakfast programs to promote healthy eating and living habits for families.
Melton mayor Bob Turner said the city’s poor adult health statistics sparked the campaign.
“The habits of adults are often passed onto their children,” Cr Turner said.
“By creating supportive environments for health, strengthening community action on healthy living and developing strong policies, the project will enhance community wellbeing now and into the future.”
The program, funded by Medicare Local, is being rolled out at Melton’s children and community centres this month.
