Red Nose SIDS session

Parents, carers and children under five are being invited to attend an Imagination Magic Red Nose Day special session at The Village in Bacchus Marsh on Wednesday, June 27. The session, starting at 2pm, will be hosted by Moorabool council’s early years team, and will cover SIDS and safe-sleeping practices. Gold coin donations will be taken for Red Nose Day fund-raising to support SIDS and Kids.

Arrests follow cop pursuit

Two youths who allegedly evaded police in a pursuit near Balliang on June 17 have been arrested and charged with burglary, theft of a car and other offences. The pair, aged 15, were chased when a white Holden Commodore failed to stop as police tried to intercept it about 4pm on June 16. Police pursued the vehicle, which was allegedly involved in several offences and dumped in a paddock west of Balliang Road, Balliang. Victoria Police spokesperson Creina O’Grady said police conducted an extensive search of the area using a helicopter, the dog squad and off-road motorbikes. Bacchus Marsh’s Acting Sergeant Yvette Brown said two youths were found near Rowsley and taken to Bacchus Marsh police station. They have been remanded in custody to appear in Ballarat Children’s Court on August 18.

Toolern Vale man missing

Police want to speak to anyone who may know the whereabouts of missing Toolern Vale man Jason Cadman. The 26-year-old has been missing from his home since June 10. Police are appealing to anyone who may know his location to contact Melton police. He’s described as being of slim build, 176cm tall, with short dark hair and heavily tattooed. He was wearing a cap, dark windcheater, beige trousers and black runners.

Arson fears after Melton ‘bangs’

Earlier this month a Melton mother was awoken by two loud bangs outside her Bernard Drive home. About 6.30am on June 12, the resident observed smoke and a red glow before returning to her bedroom when she realised the canvas blind outside her front window was alight. CFA extinguished the fire. Melton CIU is investigating.

Man charged over burglaries

A 35-year-old Exford man was arrested on June 19 after a series of burglaries in Melton between June 16 and 19. The night-time burglaries were committed on businesses including a hardware store on Reserve Road, a garden supply centre on Bulmans Road, a car dealership on High Street and a pizza restaurant in Bakery Square. A man was charged and remanded in custody.

Blood trail for cops

A 28-year-old Caroline Springs man left a trail of blood to his own front door after cutting himself allegedly attempting to break into a house in Brook Street, Caroline Springs. He was treated at hospital for minor injuries. After being interviewed he was charged with aggravated burglary and has been bailed to appear in court at a later date.
