Cricket

Melton Lions have signed Zimbabwean Waddington Mwayenga ahead of the 2014-15 Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association season. Mwayenga played one Test for Zimbabwe in 2005 and has played three one-day internationals. The Lions have also signed former Victorian Premier Cricket player Steve Buhagiar, while former Lion David Kirk returns to the club.

Football

Six Riddell District Football League players will be part of an AFL Goldfields under-17 squad that will travel to north Queensland to take on representative sides from Cairns and Townsville-Mackay. The group of 26 consists of players from RDFL, Ballarat Football League, Maryborough Castlemaine District Football League and the Central Highlands league. RDFL players in the squad are Gisborne Rookies’ Jack Reaper and Ryan Baker, Melton’s Connor Griffiths and Ryan Carter, Riddells Creek Juniors’ Tom Alkemade and Sunbury Lions’ Dean Muir. Trentham’s Callan Wellings is also part of the squad as are Bacchus Marsh’s Billy Griffths, Dylon Bishop and Hamish Coulton.

VWFL

Melton Centrals were outclassed by Port Melbourne Colts in the Victorian Women’s Football League division 3-4 on Sunday. The Colts were stronger right from the first bounce and never allowed the Centrals to get into the game. The Colts won 13.17 (95)-1.2 (8).

VRL

North West Wolves lost 22-16 to Casey in Victorian Rugby League first grade on Saturday. In second division, top side North West Wolves White got over the line against Casey for a 36-32 win, while Melton lost 18-14 to Werribee.
