Children at Melton Specialist School have grabbed their bikes and hit the track after receiving a $1200 grant.
In a bid to promote physical activity and health, the school has built a track for its pupils with money from the Telstra Kids Fund.
Physical education teacher Kate Slingo said the track had made a huge difference in the lives of students, allowing them to take part in activities they might not have enjoyed before.
“They take a lot of enjoyment out of it,” Ms Slingo said.
“It’s been very important for the students … they get to practice walking on different surfaces and we teach them their road senses. Many people wouldn’t know how important something so simple can be.”
Telstra area general manager Bill Mundy said the track would help create a better future for local children.
“We are proud to be able to support local community groups, such as Melton Specialist School, develop the skills and talents of children,” Mr Mundy said.
Grant recipients were nominated by Telstra employees whose children are actively involved in the community organisations.
