YOUR VOICE: June 11-17

Kids before canines

Referring to your article about the vicious dog reprieve [June 10], I could not live with an animal that scarred physically and emotionally a child. Kids before canines.

Position of value

I was surprised to read councillor Majdlik has rediscovered the community [Councillors loud on silence issue, June 3]. She should try and convince the people whose calls went unanswered. Whether or not councillors abstain I couldn’t care, however, I do care when councillor Majdlik does not respond to my repeated requests to meet in regards to issues in her area. If you don’t respond to your constituents you don’t deserve your position.

Rubbish ideas

Last weekend I moved house and took the small truck to the Melton recycling facility where I was able to donate some furniture to the tip shop. There were a heap of items that weren’t good enough for resale and I was amazed to be told I was unable to take the truck into the facility to dump a small load. Add to that the substantial cost of dumping rubbish at the tip if you don’t have coupons from a rates notice and it’s little wonder the backroads around Melton have become a dumping ground.

Law and disorder

As crime rates continue to rise, Victorian taxpayers are now paying an additional $1 billion a year under Denis Napthine to prop up the Liberal government’s failed law and order strategy.

According to Victoria Police crime data, there were almost 40,000 more criminal offences recorded across Victoria last year than before the Liberals came to office in 2010. The state’s prison population has increased by almost 12 per cent in the past three years.

Forget the slogans about frontline police numbers from the Liberals. The simple fact is that Victoria is less safe today than it was three years ago.
