Group is a life-changer for Melton single parents

About 50 Melton single parents are forging new pathways for themselves and their children.

Parents Without Partners enables one-parent families to have access to fun activities and to interact with people in similar situations; and it offers advice and help. Vice-president Kellie McInerney said the group had changed her life and the lives of many of her friends.

Along with weekly Wednesday chats, the group raises money to subsidise outings such as picnics and camps.

“Meeting new people and getting out into the community has helped me,” Ms McInerny said.

Group secretary Karen Ford, a single parent for almost a decade, said the group helped children realise they were not alone and that many of their peers were dealing with similar issues.
