Melton Hockey Club’s mixed start to the season took an upswing in Metropolitan Victorian League 3 when the Mustangs’ senior men recorded a convincing win against OHA on Saturday.
After being thrashed last week 7-1 by St Bedes, the Mustangs bounced back with a 4-2 win at Mowbray College.
“We should have won by a few more goals,” said coach Scott McLaren. “We had a good percentage of the play and it was a very good performance by the team.”

Andrew Arnold scored two goals for the Mustangs, while Daniel Baker and Adrian May scored one each.
McLaren put the club’s inability to win two games in a row down to not having all the players on the park at the same time.
“We have had availability issues, with people not being able to play because of work,” he said.
The Mustangs are fifth on the ladder.
“We are probably one win down on where we wanted to be at this time of the year,” he said. “We pencilled in a win against Collegians. We are aiming to be top four by the end of the season.”
The team has the next two weeks off.
“We have a bye this week and then the weekend off for the Queen’s Birthday weekend,” McLaren said.
“We will possibly get together as a team … we may go watch one of the premier league matches, to help improve our game.”
The Melton men’s Metropolitan Victorian League 3 reserves side won 5-0 in a walkover result against OHA.
The Melton men’s Metro 3 west side lost to Altona 4-2, with Tony Lawrence scoring the Mustangs’ goals.
In women’s Victorian League 2, the Mustangs cemented their spot in the top four with their third win of the season by defeating RMIT 2-0.
