FFV

Melton Phoenix is back on the winners’ list, coming up 2-0 against Laverton Park in the FFV state league 4 west.

Jason Moody scored both goals for the Phoenix in the second half. Phoenix remains fourth on the ladder and this week plays Strathmore.

RDFL

Riddell and Sunbury Kangaroos led the way with eight players from each team selected in the Riddell District Football League senior interleague side to take on Alberton in the 2014 WorkSafe country championships on May 24. The squad of 51, which will have three training sessions before the final team is selected, comprises representatives from every team in the league.

Hockey

Melton’s three men’s hockey teams were victorious in the Victorian Hockey League competition at the weekend. The men’s Vic League 3 side had its first win for the season, defeating Bayside Cougars 5-3 at Mowbray College on Saturday, while the reserves beat the Cougars 3-2. In men’s metro 3 west, the Mustangs defeated Powerhouse 5-1. The women’s teams had mixed results: the Vic League 2 side drew 1-1 with Knox and the reserves side lost 2-1. In women’s metro 3 north-west, the Mustangs were awarded a 5-0 victory with a walkover against PEGS.

VWFL

Melton Centrals lost to Bayswater in a thriller in Victorian Women’s Football League on Saturday. After an even first quarter, the Centrals kicked away to take a 20-point lead into the main break. In the third quarter, the Kangaroos managed to reduce the margin to 14 points. Centrals were held scoreless in the final term and the Kangaroos won by one point, 6.7 (43) to 6.6 (42).

TAC Cup

The Western Jets continued to charge up the TAC Cup ladder with their fourth consecutive win on Saturday.
Western proved far too good for the Bendigo Pioneers, winning by 66 points, 14.10 (94) to 4.4 (28). Mitchell Norton was the leading goalscorer with four.
