BFNL: Every club gets a guernsey in interleague squad

Melton and Darley each have four representatives in the Ballarat Football League senior interleague squad that will take on Goulburn Valley Football Netball League in the 2014 WorkSafe country championships on Saturday, May 24.

The squad announced last week has players from every senior team, with North Ballarat City the best represented with 10.

Redan is next best with eight players, while Sunbury has seven.

Melton playing coach Brad Murphy leads the selections for the Bloods and is joined by Matthew Notman, Murphy Watt and Jarryd Ramsay, the last named being one of six development players named in the squad.

Steven Kennedy, Darren Leonard, Shane Page and Rhys Ellis have been selected for Darley.

Bacchus Marsh has two representatives in the squad, Declan Phyland and development player Logan Blundell, while Reece Miles is the only Melton South player selected.

Ballarat senior interleague coach Shane Skontra said the squad was a “mix of older, experienced players and young up-and -coming talent ready to make a name for themselves at the next level”.

Central Highlands Football League senior squad players have started training for their clash against Loddon Valley Football League, also on May 24.

Hepburn has the most players in the squad with seven, followed by Bungaree and Springbank with six each.

Bungaree’s representatives are Marty Dufty, Chris O’Keefe, Shaun Finlayson, Joel Mahar, Jason Linke and Dave Benson, with Springbank’s Paul McMahon, Luke Fisher, Tim Malone, Tom Eltingham, Joel Maher and Simon Quinlan.

Ballan’s Ryan Closter, Dunnstown’s Sam Jenkins and Gordon’s Mark Gunnell, Luke Gunnell and Ash Munari have also been included.

Riddell District Football League is expected to name its squad this week.
