TAC Cup

The Western Jets enjoyed one of the club’s best wins of the season on Saturday, defeating Gippsland by 36 points. After taking a one-point lead into the final term, the Jets powered away, using a strong wind to their advantage. They booted five majors and restricted the Power to just one point to win 13.16 (94) to 8.10 (58). Brayden Monk, outstanding for the Jets, was named best on ground. Also damaging were Jackson Viola and Liam Duggan. Up forward, Mark Orr, Caleb Sullivan and Mitchell Norton finished with two goals each. With a 3-3 record, the Jets remain in fifth spot on the TAC Cup ladder.

VWFL

Melton Centrals lost the opening game of the Victorian Women’s Football League season on Sunday. Hallam won the division 3/4 game by 27 points, 7.14 (56) to 4.5 (29). Centrals will face Bayswater at Bayswater Oval on Sunday.

Hockey

Melton’s two women’s teams recorded wins against Casey in the Victorian Hockey League on Saturday. The senior side defeated Casey 3-2 in the Women’s Victorian League 3. Sarah Gorton, Melissa Lake and Jessica Spence scored for Melton. The reserves won 2-0, with Alannah Berns and Jess Spence finding the net. The men’s Victorian League 3 team lost 0-2 to Casey, while the men’s reserves side defeated Collegians 4-0 with Josh Eastwell, Lucas Knipe, Brent McMillan and Lachie Vallance scoring. The club’s under-10s, 12s and 14s all recorded wins.

VRL

Melton Broncos lost the opening game of the Victorian Rugby League’s
second division season on Saturday. The Broncos fell to Sunbury Tigers, 38-18.

Basketball

Melton 2 won its round five match against Sunbury 33-14 in the Victorian Junior Basketball League 12 boys regional 2 north competition. Melton 3 lost to Broadmeadows 2, 39-33. In the 16 boys regional 3 north division, Melton 2 beat Altona 4, 37-27. In 18 boys regional 1 north-west, Melton lost to Coburg 64-55. Melton defeated Sunbury 2, 36 to 17, in their 12 girls regional 2 north match.
