CHFL: Ballan wins low-scoring game against Rokewood-Corindhap

Ballan won a low-scoring clash against Rokewood-Corindhap in their senior division Central Highlands Football League encounter on Saturday.

It was close all day at Rokewood Recreation Reserve, with Ballan clinging on to its half-time lead for a 6.13 (49) to 5.7 (37) win.

Rokewood-Corindhap’s superior kicking grabbed it an early nine-point lead. But Ballan then kicked the only two goals of the second quarter and was three points in front at the main break.

Rokewood-Corindhap kicked the only goal of the third term as Ballan managed five points. In the final term, Ballan kicked straight for three goals and a match-winning lead.

Zachary Peoples and Mark Williams kicked two goals each for Ballan, with Sam Hitchings best on ground.

Bungaree kicked the only goal of the final quarter to defeat Springbank by two points, 6.13 (49) to 6.11 (47). Tom Wilson was Bungaree’s best. Springbank’s Paul McMahon was the only multiple goal-scorer for the day with three.

A scoreless last quarter from Dunnstown saw it give up a three-quarter- time lead to Clunes, which won 10.7 (67) to 8.6 (54). Joel Murphy kicked three goals for Dunnstown.

Gordon had an easy win over Beaufort, 16.9 (105) to 10.9 (69).

Steven Nicholson kicked six for Gordon and was one of the best afield.
