Staff and shoppers at a Melton supermarket have farewelled a popular store clerk after almost 30 years.
About 45 people attended a retirement party for Woolworths employee Kathleen McCurry on April 10.
She said one of her greatest achievements was being involved in a 2008 Royal Children’s Hospital fund-raiser that collected $23,400.
“We went up against stores like those in Toorak and this proud store in the west, with the community’s help, raised more money than they did,” she said.
Husband David said he was proud of his wife’s hard work and positivity throughout their 47-year marriage.
“When we arrived in Australia [from Scotland], she had a job within three days,” he said. “Not a bad effort when you consider we arrived on a Saturday.”
