POPULATION BOOM ‘TOO FAST’ FOR SERVICES (Weekly, April 8)

■ Our rate of immigration-driven population growth is unsustainable and is hurting our economy.

It’s assumed the housing industry can replace our failing industries.

We can’t export properties or housing. We should be concentrating on upgrading and optimising our infrastructure, not adding more people.

Property developers are getting all the benefits and the costs are being passed onto the public.

■ Population increase is being increased by all the house approvals.

There’s no balance with jobs, infrastructure, costs of living or the state deficit. There needs to be a cost-benefit analysis of the whole housing industry.

The benefits go to property developers, but the costs are distributed onto the community. ‘‘Planning’’ has become an oxymoron and standards can only decline to the detriment of the profession.

It’s all about destruction of planning principles and open slather housing construction.

BUNNINGS APPLICATION (Weekly, April 8)

■ I don’t want to see Bunnings in Bacchus Marsh.

Most people move out for the quiet country lifestyle and that is slowly disintegrating because of all the development.

What about the hardware stores we already have here?

These monopolies will put an end to local stores, which also employ locals.

■ Councillors are so dumb. Bunnings will build the roundabout and infrastructure the town needs.

You guys are just egomaniacs – against anything for anyone but yourselves. Get a grip.

GOOD NEWS FOR MOBILE USERS

■ Ballan residents will get better mobile phone coverage and free Wi-Fi on a number of V/Line train services after Premier Denis Napthine’s recent announcement of $40 million to deal with black spots across Victoria.

New towers will improve mobile phone coverage and fix black spots on V/Line trains between Melbourne and Ballarat, so commuters can use the internet during their journeys.
