Diggers rest kicked off its Riddell District Football League season at the weekend with a tough 16-point loss to Romsey.
After having the bye in the first round, Diggers Rest took a little while to get going. Then, after giving up an early lead, it was unable to bridge the gap late, going down 9.14 (68) to 11.18 (84).
Luke Smailes was solid with three goals, while Cole Laurie was also a standout for the Burras.
A scoreless first quarter for Rockbank was the beginning of a horror game for the Rams as they succumbed to Rupertswood by 98 points on Saturday. The Rams scored just three goals for the game.
After again failing to score in the final quarter, they watched Rupertswood run away to win 18.11 (119) to 3.3 (21).
