Sunday’s Ballan Autumn Festival was a sight to behold with 120 stalls, a street parade harking back to the 1970s, a wood chop exhibition, Chinese dragons and a pet show.
“We had around 7000 people attend, with many from Ballarat, Melton and Melbourne coming along,” festival committee president Helen Tatchell said.
“It’s hard to estimate exact numbers, but we came up with the figure after our local butcher told us he’d sold 75 kilograms of spit-roast meat for gyros, compared to last year’s 38 kilograms.”
Last year’s festival drew more than 5000 people. The street parade, in keeping with a Back to the ’70s theme, attracted 40 entrants including Kristin Cahill, who donned platform shoes and a safari suit.
