Bacchus Marsh Harvest Festival bears fruit

This Sunday’s Bacchus Marsh Harvest Festival is a great chance to share all the area has to offer, according to orchardist Jeff Jones.

“We can often take our rural setting, rich soils, and abundance of local produce for granted,’’ he says.

‘‘The festival reminds us how unique it is to have our farm gates on Melbourne’s doorstep. Visitors will hear the story of our orchard and can enjoy tastings of heritage apple varieties and our locally grown pears. Our apples are unwaxed, straight from the tree.”

The festival includes a free bus tour of local orchards, barefoot grape and tomato stomping, a maker’s market, wine tasting, gumboot throwing and apple
pie competitions.

There’ll also be live entertainment and special menus at many cafes and restaurants.
