More than 600 people put on their walking shoes to raise money for cancer research as part of Melton’s Relay for Life.
Organisers of the February 22-23 event were pleased with this year’s turnout, with 618 walkers and 27 teams taking part.
The overnight relay included a lap dedicated to cancer survivors and those who have cared for people fighting cancer.
Chairwoman Mary Carroll said $71,000 had been raised by this year’s relay, with donations to be accepted for another month.
“It was a wonderful event, despite the cold weather,” she said. “It was overwhelming to see so many people involved, from children through to grandparents.
“We had a tug-of-war, which had a lot of involvement, and for the first time had the Miss Relay, which saw guys dressed up as girls. It was a big hit.”
