Future Melton fireys put their skills on show

Sixteen Melton teenagers, including Mitchell Precie, Charlee Stemp and Jacob Steele (pictured), were among more than 600 competitors at last weekend’s Volunteer Fire Brigades Victoria urban junior championships in Swan Hill.

Melton CFA junior co-ordinator Trevor Rickards said four local teams travelled to the event: two under-14 teams and two of under-17s.

“They worked with hoses to hit a target and worked to get water out of the ground,’’ he said.

‘‘They practise every Wednesday and compete in competitions across the summer.” Mr Rickards said the junior brigade helped develop the firefighters of the future.

“Five or six of our juniors are almost 17 and they are doing a recruitment course with the seniors to transition over.”
