Melton narrowly lost to fellow finals aspirant Glenroy in weekend division 1 bowls action.
Melton split the rinks with fourth-placed Glenroy but lost the match narrowly on points 4-73 to 14-84.
The loss means Melton has slipped down the ladder to seventh with just one round to play before the finals. Melton will take on second-placed Fitzroy Victoria, needing a win to have any chance of jumping back into the finals.
