Melton food bank federal funding in doubt

Organisers of Combined Churches Caring Melton’s (CCCM) food bank are yet to hear if they will still receive federal funding to help the centre relocate.

The centre had been allocated $200,000 by the former Labor government to relocate to a permanent site, due to the redevelopment of its current council-owned building.

As reported by the Weekly, Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Warren Truss last month confirmed Regional Development Australia Fund (RDAF) allocations made by the previous government would be reassessed.

Reverend Julie Shannon said CCCM had yet to be contacted regarding the funding. “If this specific funding falls through, we will work closely with the local council to get a good outcome for CCCM and the local community.”

RDAF changes mean a tennis centre in Caroline Springs is also in doubt.

Last month, Melton council chief executive Kel Tori told the Weekly: ‘‘At best, these projects will be delayed and at worst they will be at risk.”
