Losing someone to road trauma is tough, but having the support of people who have been through the same thing can ease the pain.
“Unless you’ve been through it, you don’t understand what it feels like,” says Melton’s Narelle Bowden, whose five-year-old nephew died on the Melton Highway in 2010.
Ms Bowden and George Greaves, whose brother Craig Sherlock was killed by a drink-driver in 1995, will co-ordinate a new Melton support group.
It follows a road safety forum held in October.
The Victims of Road Trauma Support group will provide support and advice, and will host guest speakers.
Ms Bowden believes having the support of others has helped her cope.
‘‘When I’m having a bad day I can ring [George] and he understands,’’ Ms Bowden said.
The group’s first meeting is at Melton Community Hall on November 27 at 7pm.
