Friends group fights for Melton aged-care home

A Friends of Reg Geary House group has been established as Melton residents fight the closure of the aged-care centre.

Friends and family members of residents launched the group on Saturday at a meeting organised by Melton MP Don Nardella.

More than 30 people attended. The role of all three levels of government, concerns over an immediate decline in resident numbers and what that means for staff were among matters raised.

As reported by the Weekly, the closure of the Western Health-operated facility was announced on October 25, with the organisation stating it no longer met the needs of its 30 residents. A petition calling for the home to remain open has been distributed around Melton.
