Objectors sound off at three-day Mount Egerton festival

The fate of a three-day music festival that has been held at Mount Egerton since 2011 will be decided next week after five objections were heard at last Wednesday’s Moorabool council meeting.

Daniel Camilleri, of applicant Inca Roads, has applied for a permit to hold a music festival at a property on Yendon-Egerton Road from November 29 to December 1.

The festival features music including funk, electronica, folk and rock. All patrons must be members of the organisation, with a maximum of 650 people able to attend.

Kathleen Littlejohn, who lives on Yendon-Egerton Road, said she felt the organisation didn’t “support local people” and the event made too much noise. Gaylene Martin, who also lives near the site, said she moved to Mount Egerton to “escape the noise and parties of suburbia”.

Mr Camilleri said he empathised with noise concerns but maintained adequate measures were in place. Dylan Finnigan, an Inca Roads organiser, said the organisation received more than 45 letters of  positive feedback after last year’s event. 

“All property owners neighbouring the site have been invited to attend every year,” he said.

Cr Paul Tatchell said while the festival was a great addition to the community, amendments to the application were needed. He urged the applicant to create more stringent fire safety regulations. A revised application is due to be heard next week.
