Residents will no longer have to travel out of town for scans after the arrival of a new X-ray machine at Ballan Health and Care.
The imaging facility, which opened last week, will be available on
Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and can take full body scans.
“It means people don’t have to travel an extended distance in pain,” said hospital spokeswoman Triss O’Keefe.
‘‘For example, a little child breaks their arm or has a suspected
fracture, and instead of having to drive them 30 minutes away to be
looked at in Bacchus Marsh or Ballarat, they can come straight here.
“It’ll shorten the time they’re in pain, which is especially important for the elderly and children.”
The imaging facility was added as part of a $2-million state government plan to redevelop and expand the community-run hospital.
An additional $400,000 was raised through community pledges, with
further money generated by fund-raising events and philanthropic
donations.
