Reforms affecting green-wedge zones in Melton and rural zones in
Moorabool will simplify planning and boost agricultural production,
according to Planning Minister Matthew Guy.
“The [changes] will encourage primary production uses at the same
time as maintaining protection from inappropriate urban development,” he said.
New green-wedge and green-wedge A zones will be targeted as areas
for increased agricultural production, with changes designed to
encourage farm-based business.
Moorabool does not have green-wedge zones, but changes to rural
and farming areas will encourage agricultural use of land, according to
council CEO Rob Croxford.
“[They’ll] provide greater flexibility to use land for rural
industries and employment-generating activities, including tourism,
agricultural services and the sale of produce through farm-gate
outlets,” he said.
