Brodie’s parting gift of hope for new lives

BRODIE Wilson’s mother Julie takes comfort knowing her son helped saved five lives despite losing his own.

The 18-year-old died on June 29 after an asthma attack. He had decided to register as an organ donor when he was 16.

His heart, lungs and liver were donated to five people. Among the recipients was a one-year-old who received part of Brodie’s liver.

Ms Wilson said she had a sense of pride knowing that even in his death Brodie was able to help others.

“I had a night where I was filling out forms to become an organ
donor for myself,” she said. “I said to both Brodie and his older
brother, although it’s not a pleasant subject, that I needed to talk to
them and know what their wishes were. Brodie said he was more than happy
to do become an organ donor.”
