Rowdy residents disrupt Melton council meeting

ANOTHER Melton council meeting ended in chaos last week, with police called and the meeting adjourned seven minutes after it started.

Melton’s Inspector Stephen Mutton said nine officers attended the meeting in a bid to calm down a group of residents who became verbally disruptive, directing their anger towards mayor Kathy Majdlik.

Councillors tried to continue after a 20-minute adjournment, voting to move public question time to the end of the meeting.  Councillors suspended the meeting.

Police have been called to five of the seven council meetings this year. Inspector Mutton said police would meet with the council to discuss future meetings.
